The cabin on the lake, built in 2022 by Andy the owner is a unique and wonderful place. We’re incredibly excited about it and are sure you will be too! Head back into nature at the Cabin on the Lake, a name which could not be more perfectly suited to this private getaway in the North Devon countryside.
Set in a secluded spot on an island on a lake with open access to fields. Follow a short winding path from the field, until you stumble upon the idyllic lake. Cross a bridge and you find the cabin nestled on an island in the lake. There is a platform above the water which is the perfect spot for yoga or meditation or simply star gazing!
There’s also the rustic fire pit to toast marshmallows upon and plenty of private space to sit back and relax with an ice cold G&T the only tough decision is to choose the hammocks or egg chair?

The Cabin on the lake is perfect for romantics, clad in timber inside and out, the cabin is true to its name and has a substantial deck out over the lake, giving a sense of floating on water which surrounds its balcony on 3 sides.

There is so much character within this bespoke hideaway, which we know you will just fall in love with. On a rainy-day light the wood burner and cosy up with that book you’ve been waiting to get stuck into. You are sure to get a dreamy night’s sleep in the sumptuous king-size bed made out of an oak tree and hand-crafted with luxurious linens and there’s no need to set an alarm here! We told you, this really is the place to retreat to for some much-needed downtime.
Large Windows with bi-fold doors ensure you feel immersed in the environment and a full-width balcony on two sides over the water with your very own decked area and picnic and BBQ area.
The Cabin on the lake is simple but sophisticated – the interior has stripped wood floors and walls, a king-size bed and furniture made out of logs! Including a huge bathroom with a walk-in shower, toilet and sink. It also has a kitchen (hob and microwave but no oven) and an open-plan lounge area. Plus, if you do have the kids, it has a fantastic upstairs bedroom with restricted ceiling height offering a true secret den set up with 2 full-sized single beds. The sofa also converts to a double sofa bed should you have extended guests with you.
The Cabin on the Lake soothes the tension of modern life right out of you and fills you with the peace of nature.
Gather everyone around the wood-burner in the evening for games, stories and even guitar practice, light the fire pit and stargaze in silence or unwind in our hammocks or egg chair!

North Devon offers everything you could wish for on holiday. From unspoilt rolling hills to dramatic countryside, sandy beaches, and picturesque villages.
There are many local restaurants and numerous beach cafes – you will be spoilt for choice, or we even cater for you! Lundy Island is only a boat trip away where you may be joined by Dolphins, Seals, Puffins & Deer!
There are beautiful sandy beaches at Instow, Saunton Sands, or Braunton Burrows but not forgetting the wonderful galleries and cafes at Instow and Appledore, which is rich with maritime themes and link to the sea. Clovelly is a short car journey away and is pretty as a picture. Once you have discovered this very special place, you’ll be looking to return as soon as possible.
With wonderful walks, stunning sunsets and endless views there is also an abundance of natural wildlife to observe. There is a shared table tennis room for you to enjoy and we also cater for extra charged experiences such as home made food delivered to your door and donkey walks plus, we have also teamed up with other local businesses to offer horse riding, drinks tasting and spa treatment experiences! Another major attraction is the experience to feed/care for animals should guests wish to.
The Southwest Coast Path is also a popular ‘must visit’ for keen runners and walkers! If golf is your thing, then you will be spoiled for choice with excellent courses including the Royal North Devon Club in Westward Ho! which was founded in 1864 and is the oldest golf course in England and the wonderful Championship Links Saunton Club.
The popular Tarka Trail can be accessed nearby and provides the unique opportunity to follow a disused railway line by foot or by cycle allowing you to enjoy some of Devon’s finest countryside and scenery while discovering the towns of Barnstaple and Bideford where you can wander during the weekly pannier markets, with a host of local produce, quality cafés and crafts on offer. On your Tarka Trail journey be sure to visit the Fremington Quay Café for a tasty bite to eat and then the estuary-side village of Instow – a must see!
Other places not to forget to visit are Lynton & Lynmouth for stunning views out towards Wales. And be sure not to forget to visit Exmoor or Dartmoor National Parks, the former with its magical night skies in Europe’s first ’Dark Sky Reserve’. Or, simply enjoy the stars from

We ordered the epic breakfast hamper and a home cooked meal for our first night which was delicious! We enjoyed many a bbq under the beautiful crisp clear sky and the stars on our first night we’re just beautiful.
Our two year old absolutely loved the animals, waking to them each morning and greeting them whilst having breakfast was one of the highlights of her day. Andy helped our Daughter feed carrots to baby Dave the Donkey which she loved and a visit from their new family puppy and the chickens were another highlight. I think we may end up having an expensive hobby on our hands as the horses were her definitely favourite!
It was a great base for us to be able to visit places, Westward Ho was a great sandy beach close by. Clovelly was the most beautiful village and worth a visit. If your going with a toddler ensure you take a carrier for them as buggy’s are not recommended with all the cobbles and the steep hill. But don’t let that deter you as they have a Land Rover that can take you back up to the top to save you climbing back up. We also hired some bikes from Torrington Cycle Hire and cycled along the Tarka Trail taking us to the pretty harbour of Instow. Lynton and Lynmouth was our last visit, we enjoyed the Cliff railway and visited a lovely cafe called Charlie Friday’s.
We would definitely recommend and would like to visit again as we would love to try the safari cabin out, it looks really exciting for children and idyllic for the adults in the evenings looking over the fields with a glass of wine. Pure bliss!

Everything was clean and tidy with plenty of towels, blankets and pillows. The master bedroom bed was one of the best night's sleep we've had in a long while and all 3 of our children slept soundly too!
We were using the cottage as a base whilst we house hunted in the local area so didn't manage to get around to look at all the animals during our stay but having the donkeys and pigs literally on your doorstep created such a lovely atmosphere and provided great educational entertainment for the children in the mornings before we headed out for viewings.
